Leather care
There are 4 general rules when dealing with leather:
1. Do not use aggressive substances, soap or harsh liquids.
2. Leather needs gentle care. Do not rub strongly.
3. Keep leather away from heaters and exposure to direct sunlight.
4. Always make sure to pre-test any leather conditioner or leather cleaner in an inconspicuous area first
Leather lasts for incredibly long time if treated correctly. Cleaning and protection are the regular needs required for leather. To obtain the maximum cleaning and protection results, it is essential to be able to recognize the various types of leather, thus avoiding the use of products where not suited.
Naked & Anilines (Singa, Touch, Quattro)
These leathers have very little or no protective treatment applied to them. A proper care will keep natural feel and luster of these leathers.
1. Remove dust often, with vacuum cleaner or a dry cloth
2. Blot spills immediately, do not let them soak into the leather
3. Clean very gently with a dry cloth
4. Many stains will tend to disappear a few days after occurred; some darkening can be expected
Protected (Venice, Regent, Empire, Tivoli, Euro, Evita, Crown, Millennium)
These leathers are fully finished and top coated to allow an easier cleaning and fading resistance. This type of finish makes the natural defects less noticeable, the color is more uniform, and it is more stain resistant.
1. Remove dust often and clean periodically with a damp cloth (in distilled water)
2. Blot any spill and wipe gently the area with a damp cloth
3. If a stain has developed, use a cloth dampened in a mild soap solution, and wipe gently the area; avoid soaking the leather
4. After removing the stain, use a clean damp cloth (in distilled water) to remove the soap
Bycast (Royal)
This is a new development in using top split leather by covering it with coloured polyurethane using 100% water-based material.
1. Remove dust often and clean periodically with a damp cloth (in distilled water)
2. Blot any spill and wipe gently the area with a damp cloth
3. As the top surface has a high polyurethane finish, normal leather creams should not be used.
Waxed & Oiled
These are aniline leathers where the effects are done by applying oils and waxes. Special care has to be taken avoiding scratching them. It is important to keep the furniture far from heat sources. Waxes become soft when heated, and the leather could change its look.
1. Remove dust often, with a vacuum cleaner or a dry cloth
2. Blot spills immediately, do not let them soak into the leather
3. Let it dry naturally
4. Slight changes in the appearance of the leather may occur; this is normal in these types of leather. Look for a care product designed for this leather
5. Many stains will tend to disappear a few days after occurred; some darkening can be expected
Nubucks
These are leathers with very little or no finish at all, similar to the naked & anilines, but with a soft nap. The warm feel they naturally have can be kept for a long time.
1. Remove dust often, with vacuum cleaner or a dry cloth
2. Brush periodically with a suede brush
3. Blot spills immediately, do not let them soak into the leather
